— Thirteenth

I haven’t written back here in so long (10 months!), mostly because all I’ve really been up to was grad school and homebody life. Also because I had so many things tentatively lined up, I didn’t want to jinx any of them by blabbing about them nonstop. Now that they’ve all either passed or are pretty much already locked in on my calendar, I think I’m ready to start sharing again.

  1. Being back in uni has been such an amazing ride. I didn’t come back hoping to get anything meaningful out of the experience. It was really more a stopgap, something to tide me over until I realized what it was I wanted to do with my life. Who knew this was what that was? Being back has opened so many doors for me, and I couldn’t be more grateful. I started grad school fifteen months ago, and in that short span of time, both I and my outlook in life have changed so drastically. I never thought I could have it this good. I’m a month away from graduation (which is why I’m getting all sentimental), and one complete semester ahead of schedule, no less! I’m so crazy ready for what’s coming next.

  2. This year, I have a record of three papers in-press! I’ll be in Palawan from November 12 to 16 to present at the IEEE HNICEM conference, and then in Nara, Japan from November 29 to December 5 to present two papers: one at the WICTTEE workshop (this paper is pretty much my thesis proposal condensed into nine solid pages), and one at the ICCE conference. This is my second time presenting at ICCE, and I’m really looking forward to seeing familiar faces.

  3. I applied for and subsequently got accepted into the LearnLab summer program at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA last June. I was BEYOND excited. Visiting the US was always just a pipedream for me, so to have been given an opportunity to do so (and to study even more!) was such a blessing. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. I flew to New York to live with my uncle and aunt for another ten days after class ended. I thought ten days was enough to see everything, but despite how jam-packed my schedule was, I still wasn’t even able to hang around Central Park! Heh. Jest aside, I had such an amazing time. I definitely cannot wait to go back.

  4. Now that I’m graduating grad school with a shiny new Master’s degree in Computer Science, what’s next? I’m currently in the thick of Ph.D. applications (obviously, because when is learning too much too much?), and it’s definitely been nerve-wracking. For the same reason I haven’t been back here in so long, I’ll probably keep this one under wraps until things are more final. Let’s just leave it at this is exactly what I want to be doing with my life, so please pray for me and/or send good thoughts my way! While waiting for results and the semester to start in August however, both my thesis adviser and the chair of the CS department thought it would be an awesome time to teach. Nothing’s final yet, but you’re currently ready the mindless ramblings of a soon-to-be Math for CS instructor. Yep, you read it right. Mathematics for Computer Science. This ought to be fun. Right?

  5. I’m not very lovesick anymore. Maybe not even at all. I’ve found the love of my life. Or rather, he’s found me. He’d been hiding in plain sight all along. He is all my prayers granted and all my dreams come to life. I am definitely among the luckiest men alive.

Here’s a little fact for you all- this is a prologue - made especially as a little taster treat before we hit with issue 1. These pages won’t actually be in issue 1 - so here they are in all their glory .

First update in ages, and it’s about some comic geek crap. Ha! Sorry, I just couldn’t contain myself. Scott Lobdell was a terrible writer, but he really did right by the Titans in this final issue. (I’m so glad they’re getting a second volume under different authorship soon.) Even just for a final shot, it was good to see the entire team together.
Now give me Kon, Bart, and Kiran back!
Currently Reading: Teen Titans Annual #3, by Lobdell, Rocafort, Silva, and Derenick
I’ll have something more me-related up here very soon. Promise!

Marvel Phase 3

With the announcement of the post-Ultron Hulk movie, I am sort of convinced all this is true. While I wish a Runaways movie would finally make it into Phase 3, a Doctor Strange and a Defenders movie more than make up for it.
Those subtitles hint two wars and one major death. That is, if they stick anywhere close to how those tagline story arcs really played out. Regardless, I’m pretty crazy stoked.
